Making the Right Choice for Your Weight Loss Transformation

Your weight loss journey at miVIP begins with verifying your insurance to determine if your plan offers a surgical weight loss benefit. The miVIP team also provides a referral to attend a patient education seminar and/or evaluation with one of our bariatric specialists to learn more about your weight loss surgery options and the qualifying criteria for each.

Bariatric doctors at miVIP perform different types of bariatric surgery, including:

Gastric Sleeve - Also called a vertical sleeve gastrectomy, with this procedure the surgeon alters the shape of the stomach to create a “sleeve,” reducing its size by 80% to 85%, while retaining its normal function. Patients can expect to lose about half of their excess weight over a period of 2-3 years. Learn more about gastric sleeve surgery.

Gastric Bypass - This procedure generally provides the fastest results, but requires major lifestyle changes. For this procedure the surgeon removes a large portion of the stomach and re-attaches it to a distal portion of the intestine to create a different pathway or “bypass” for food. Bypass patients who commit to the required lifestyle changes can expect to shed up to 80% of excess body fat. Learn more about gastric bypass surgery.

Gastric Band - This procedure is considered the least invasive type of bariatric surgery, requiring the least recovery effort, though some patients find it less effective in helping them achieve their weight loss goals. During gastric band surgery, the surgeon installs an adjustable silicon band, often referred to as a lap-band or LAGB, around the top section of the stomach, adjusting it to restrict food consumption. Learn more about gastric band surgery.
