The da Vinci system gives surgeons a high definition, 3D view of the herniated area, and enables them to operate using robotic instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. Robotic hernia repair is scarless and offers a low rate of recurrence. Patients are sent home the same day and can often resume light activities within a day or two, although they must refrain from strenuous activities for a couple of weeks to facilitate healing. Within a month, most patients can resume their full range of activities.
